What Are The Risks Of Radiesse® Treatments?

The effects of aging can be seen almost everywhere on our bodies. From dull and worn-looking skin to lost volume, aesthetic changes can impact your confidence and self-image. While there are many things you can do at home to help slow the changes on the surface of your skin, there are other effects of aging that happen inside your body.

As you age, your body begins to produce less collagen and elastin. These two substances form your skin’s elasticity and help keep a toned appearance. Over time, the decreased amount of collagen and elastin can cause lost volume and give the appearance of sunken areas or slack skin.

Radiesse® is a dermal injectable that uses microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite to help restore the lost volume and toned look. Once injected, your body begins to break down the microspheres and stimulate new production of collagen and elastin. The gel-like consistency of Radiesse® makes it great in areas with moderate to a severe loss of volume.

Radiesse® treatments take less than 30 minutes, and with no downtime or recovery after, the treatment sessions can fit into your regular schedule with minimal disruption. Although the results generally last about a year, the treatments can safely be repeated to keep the same youthful and toned look.

Since Radiesse® treatments are minimally invasive, there are minimal risks associated with the treatments. The most common side effects are associated with the injections themselves and are similar to injections of vaccines.

On some occasions, some patients experience visible bruising, tenderness, and irritation around the injection site. These are temporary and usually subside within a few days after the appointment. It is very rare for someone to experience an adverse reaction to calcium hydroxylapatite.
