Wrinkle Treatments
Wrinkles are an unavoidable consequence of aging and something all of us will acquire during our lifetime. They are a result of decreased collagen and elastin in our skin that breaks down over time. Several factors can contribute and speed up this process, including excessive sun exposure and smoking. But whatever their source, wrinkles age your skin and can make you look less youthful. They do not require skin testing unlike older treatments as there is essentially no risk of allergic reaction. The result is a more youthful and smoother appearance to your face that lasts 9 months to a year.
To treat facial wrinkles and augment lips, a variety of procedures are available to enhance and provide a more youthful appearance. All of these procedures are performed in the office by either Dr. Pittman or his expert nurse injector and most take less than 20 minutes to perform. After the injection is performed, there may be some redness to the area. This can be easily concealed with makeup and typically disappears within a few hours. To decrease the overall risk of excessive bruising, we urge patients to not take aspirin or other blood thinning products several day prior to the procedure.
BOTOX®
BOTOX® (Botulinum Type A), an injectable neurotoxin, is a nonsurgical alternative used to improve the look of existing fine lines and wrinkles. This is not a filler agent, but instead works by weakening or paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles. By paralyzing the muscles you contract when you smile or frown, wrinkles and creases are reduced and smoothed away.
During your consultation with Dr. Pittman, he will evaluate the areas on your face that could benefit from Botox injections. These areas may include the horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, “crow’s feet” or squint lines around the eye, and opening up the eye by providing a non-surgical brow lift. Additionally, Dr. Pittman treats other conditions such as blepharospasm and platysmal bands in the neck.
Non-surgical facial rejuvenation in Washington DC only takes 10 minutes and requires no downtime, so you can return to work and resume normal activity immediately after treatment. Botox injections are performed in our office by either Dr. Pittman or his expert nurse injector Mary Beth. The effect typically last 3-4 months and varies amongst individuals. You probably will not experience bruising or swelling. If you do, keep the injection area cool to reduce swelling. The overall benefit of this is a smoother, more youthful appearance to the face.
Filler Products (JUVÉDERM®, Voluma®,Restylane®, and Perlane®)
Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, Perlaneand are made of hyaluronic acid, a highly absorbent, naturally-occurring material that provides volume and fullness to the skin by binding many times its own weight in water. All are a smooth consistency gel dermal filler that helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) —the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Perlane is slightly thicker and is used for deeper wrinkles that need a larger amount of augmentation. Voluma is a special type of filler that is longer lasting. Filler injections are done in our office by either Dr. Pittman or his expert nurse injector.
