What is a Nipple Reduction?
Nipple Reduction is a surgical procedure designed to address concerns such as asymmetry, discomfort, or dissatisfaction caused by overly large or protruding nipples. This quick and safe treatment can reduce the size of one or both nipples, enhancing their appearance while creating a more balanced look between the nipple and areola. The procedure also shortens the nipple length and reduces its width, ensuring a more natural and proportional appearance. Both men and women often seek this highly personalized surgery to enhance confidence and achieve aesthetic goals that align with their individual preferences.
There are several nipple reduction techniques, including:
- Circumcision
- Amputation
- Wedge resection
- Simple grafting
- Flaps
Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Pittman will consult with the patient and select the most suitable reduction technique tailored to each patient’s individual needs. In the case of inverted nipples, he can release tethers at the base of the nipple that pull it inward.
If an areola reduction is also requested, Dr. Pittman makes an incision along the outside of the areola, removes excess tissue, reshapes it, and sutures the incisions closed. Scarring presents along the outer line of the areola, where it is often unnoticed.
