Did you just undergo rhinoplasty or are you planning to get rhinoplasty? If so, now is the perfect time to learn about a few amazing rhinoplasty recovery tips by an award-winning plastic surgeon.
Do I Need to Follow Rhinoplasty Recovery Tips?
Yes, you should always follow the doctor’s recovery instructions. Quite often, people who get plastic surgery are eager to see their results. It’s understandable. They more than likely had to wait years before they could get the procedure they wanted. Unfortunately, everything has a process, including recovery. If you remove your bandages and splint prematurely or stop taping your nose, you are almost guaranteed to ruin the results and prolong your recovery.
What Shouldn’t I Do After Rhinoplasty?
Avoid Removing the Splint Too Soon
If you remove your splint too soon, the lateral wall, septum, or nasal passages may collapse and complicate your results. If this happens, you will need a second surgery–this surgery being a reconstructive rhinoplasty.
Avoid Working Out Too Soon
You should avoid working out or participating in even light exercises until you are a minimum of four weeks post-recovery. After four weeks, you may resume cardio workouts, such as jogging and swimming. However, you cannot resume strenuous workouts, such as weightlifting, until you are three to six months (12 to 24 weeks) post-recovery. Speak with your plastic surgeon for best advice regarding when it’s safe to return to the gym.
Avoid “Playing With” Your Nose
You should not disturb your nose while it is in recovery. Your nasal structure is still fragile and subject to shifting or collapsing if it is disturbed. This can result in imperfect work or a deformity. Therefore, as intrigued as you may be and as bothersome as the surgical site may be, refrain from touching it.
