What Are BOTOX & Wrinkle Relaxers?
Wrinkle relaxers, commonly referred to as BOTOX, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, or Daxxify, are proteins derived from botulinum toxin that are injected beneath the skin to minimize or smooth out facial lines and wrinkles. Their safety is well established, as they have been used therapeutically for over twenty years.
When used in low doses, botulinum toxin selectively weakens or relaxes the facial muscles, resulting in a clean, smooth appearance. It is a safe, effective, and proven method for treating fine lines and wrinkles.
Although there are risks, they are rare. Injection site redness, swelling, and bruising may occur and are typically temporary if they do. Eyelid droop, asymmetry, and lack of effect are even rarer occurrences. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to postpone BOTOX injections until their little ones are no longer dependent upon them for nutrition.
