As part of the surgical planning process, Dr. Pittman may ask you to get a mammogram and/or specific medical clearance from your primary care doctor. Therefore, Dr. Pittman DOES NOT perform augmentation/mastopexy on Washington, DC, patients who are active cigarette smokers since issues may arise with the blood supply as a result of the nicotine. Smoking negatively affects skin health and can lead to a protracted healing period.

Many women lose breast volume with age, weight loss, and/or after breastfeeding. This leaves the breast skin stretched and the breast with a saggy, or ptotic, appearance. A traditional lift effectively removes the extra skin, but in many patients, the breast will still have a flat or small appearance after the operation. Volumizing the breasts with an implant and tailoring the skin creates a fuller and perkier appearance.

Many women have breast implants placed when they are in their 20s. Their skin and breast tissues stretch through the years, leaving them with breasts that are larger than they wish and sagging skin. What to Expect on the Day of Breast Augmentation with a Lift Surgery

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes several hours to complete. Many women are reluctant to have augmentation/mastopexy performed, given the fact that there will be incisions placed on the breast. However, a skilled plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Pittman, will be able to camouflage these incisions effectively.. There are several incision options available for performing the procedure; the incision chosen is based on the patient’s goals and pre-operative anatomy.

Once your incisions have been created, Dr. Pittman will create pockets for your implants and insert your chosen devices. He will then elevate and reshape the breast tissue to achieve a more youthful, inviting appearance, removing any excess sagging skin and repositioning the nipples and areolas as needed. Finally, your incisions are closed using best-in-class suturing techniques and surgical dressings.

Breast Augmentation with a Lift Recovery

Recovery from augmentation/mastopexy is usually a two-to-three-week process. Generally, post-operative discomfort is minimal and easily controlled with prescription medication. You are able to shower 72 hours after surgery. You will be up and about 24 hours after surgery, but we want you to limit strenuous physical activities like sports, heavy exercise, and lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs for about three to five weeks.
